I have toured with Tucan twice; once in Peru and again in Central America and have had great experiencxes both times. They have easy going knowledgable tour leaders and local guides who do a fabulous job navigating through any local issues that come up. Group size and people have been perfect. I would use Tucan agin for my Sth American travel

Our tour of Inca Peru was amazing. Toucan and particularly our guide Neil Williams made the whole thing easy, relaxed and enjoyable. This was aided by being with the most eclectic group of people from all over the world, literally from one end to the other and a wide spread of ages youngest 20 oldest (me) 63. One day a group of 6 of us sat in a bar and there were 5 different nations represented. We had so much fun. Would do it again anytime. Try it you will love it.

We did the Costa Rica tour. The accommodation was often extremely poor, we would rate most 1-2 star. This was not clear when we booked. We did ask to have a list of hotels or types of hotels prior and was told it was not possible. The tour guide for the first part of our trip was terrible, giving little advice and only taking us to particular tour companies, rather than others that had the activities we wanted. We felt like the guide was receiving kickback for her selected places, including the restaurants we were taken to. The guide for the second part of the trip was fabulous and made all the difference. The advice on how spending money you would need was also way underestimated.

Hi Tracey, I’m very sorry that your tour of Costa Rica did not meet your expectations. We always try and provide as much detail as possible in our brochure and on our website to give clients an idea of what to expect. The hotels we use in Costa Rica are the equivalent in comfort of a 3* hotel and we do not provide lists of hotels prior to departure as they are subject to change at short notice. Our tour leaders in Central America are more experienced than in any of our other destinations. They have incredible, first-hand knowledge on the many activities that can be done and know which companies to recommend based on their health and safety records. Our tour leaders also try and choose restaurants suitable for all client’s tastes and budgets but it is not compulsory to attend the group dinners. Should you wish to leave any further feedback, please email feedback@tucantravel.com Kind regards, Jess @ Tucan Travel

Really fabulous holiday, the guide was full of information and it was obvious he loved his country! Never a dull moment, on the go the whole time, there was so much to see and do. The driver and his assistant were so helpful and polite, a truly amazing experience. Sri Lanka is a truly beautiful and interesting place.

A great trip.! Chiapas is a really interesting state in Mexico where the traditions of the Mayan people are still preserved. Very few 'western' tourists. Lovely old towns and fantastic historic sites. Belize is really interesting with the ATM cave a highlight. Guatemala is beautiful and Tikal an amazing Mayan ruined city in the middle of the jungle. Anitgua was the perfect spot to finish with an amazing town and we even saw one of the nearby volcanos erupt! Our guide Cesar was excellent. He knew all the best places to eat and helped us move around the country as effortlessly as possible. He was so helpful and was great fun to spend time with!

Everything was amazing, very organised & we were informed on the cultural/history background of each destination.

I had a great tour of SE Asia with Tucan (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore). Great itinerary, well organised, guides were great, travelling companions were perfect and we covered a lot of ground in 63 days. It was a bit fast paced at times but there were days you could kick back and relax too. Brilliant.

Pros: Overall the tour itinerary is great! The hotels are clean and mostly well situated. Cons: More information needed, to at least know what you will be confronted with. Advise that there's a lot of walking with luggage or backpack (very different from just walking) from/to bus or train stations. Also indicate that the optional EXCURSIONS are suggested, but there's no actual agency that provides them; you have to find an agency or do it alone with a taxi. I traveled with many tours, and always when it says optional excursions, it means that they are provided by the tour agency, I have chosen list of tours and then paid the guide. They pick me up at the hotel and voila! I'M JUST SAYING THAT THIS IS NOT CLEAR IN YOUR BROCHURE! These are important issues when you are traveling alone! Thanks!

My husband and I did the 9 day Trails of Peru 'Inca Trail' tour with Tucan. Was fanastic! Our guide in Lima (Pedro) was fantastic and extremely helpful and even provided a free walking tour of the city. Our Inca Trail guide, Santiago, and the porters were amazing. Minor hiccup at Cuzco Airport but nothing that couldn't be fixed. Will definitely use Tucan again for our next tour to Sth America.

We recently, early 2015,toured Cuba with Tucan and it was mostly enjoyable and well organized. However towards the end there was an 8 hour plain delay from Baracoa, with no explanations and on arrival at our hotel, the group was told there was no room for us and we would have to find our own accommodation in Havana - the Tucan guide tried to find alternatives but was unable to help and switched off his phone....no other help forthcoming ....no compensation offered...left to our own devices to find hotels and arrange new transfers. It certainly wasn't easy with our limited Spanish!

Hi Vladas, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. When travelling by public transport, delays can happen and while we understand that this can be very frustrating, unfortunately, it is completely outside of our control . We are aware that there were some operational issues surrounding your accommodation in Havana. Alternative accommodation was provided along with a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience. My wife and I did the combination of Patagonia and Antarctica. We enjoyed the scenery. We had a very good tour guide from El Calafate to Ushuaia, Stephanie Stein, who was very friendly and has great people skills. On the negative side, I would say that combining the tours is difficult as different luggage is required for the two destinations, and Patagonia (especially Torres Del Paine National Park) is geared towards backpacking, which we have never done. More information about the tour in the brochure would have helped us make a decision on whether that type of tour was suitable for us. The Antarctica expedition was excellent.

Hi Graham, I'm so pleased you enjoyed Patagonia and Antarctica overall. Packing for big trips is always a big struggle, especially for Patagonia and Antarctica where warm clothes and hiking boots are necessary. Our website contains packing lists and guides on what to expect from our tours to help you to prepare as much as possible. Please get in touch if you have any further feedback by emailing feedback@tucantravel.com Kind regards, Jess @ Tucan Travel

Generally happy with tour.Well planned ,covered a lot.And was running smoothly thanks to V.Posse.We would have two suggestions. 1.In Argentina,ElDorado, rannch was such a wonderful event. Why it laseted only few hours and instead driving to brazil side and do the iguazzu falls and then back next day to argentina again...when a stay in ranch would make much more sense and would save us from up and down traveling. 2.Please ask tour guides to be more informative about day ahead-here everyone was asking individually and this is tireying for both parties.Easier is tell everyone in one go..how many hours bus drive, what time is stop to eat, whats planned for evening etc.

A great tour company. You get what it says in the brochure. I wanted an adventure holiday where I could travel through as many countries as I could for as long as possible and see as much as I possibly could. To see the real culture of a place, perhaps visit a country off the beaten track and all for as little money as possible! I wanted a good value holiday but didn't really want to have to 'rough it' like the young ones. In the end I was very happy with my choice, 'Burma and Laos Explored'. We had hotel rooms all with air con and en suite shower rooms. Some may have been in a less than salubrious part of town, but it was often the down town area where all the exciting sights were and it was all happening! The hotel staff were warm, courteous and welcoming. In Burma we were especially thrilled to have the services of a local tour guide who was excellent. Even on his days off, so long as we paid for transport, he would take us on an action packed all day tour lasting up to the evening! Nothing was too much for him. Burma is relatively unspoiled by the tourist industry and as far as my friends and family are concerned, I was the first to travel there since my uncle fought there in the second world war. Some of our hotels seemed to be an upgrade on what we were expecting and they were really lovely. The people in Burma were so lovely and were happy to help us any way they could. The guided tours we went on were so special to me, bathing retired elephants, treks through the jungle, visiting hill tribes, watching local crafts being made, watching the most glorious sunrises and sunsets in Bagan, Myanmar or on the bridge at Mandalay. Cycling around Inley lake and seeing life on the water, being transported on a shalllow bottomed canoe through the houses on stilts. Even experiences of being told to get off the overnight coach at three in the morning so you could have Mohinga soup for breakfast! The Slow Boat through Laos was an interesting experience for us and so different from my normal life that I loved every minute of it! It set off two hours late (Laos Time) and the people on board were all so open to new encounters and meeting new friends, regardless of age. I thought that our tour would be made up of young people but these may go on the budget tours or travel independently. The White Temple at Chiang Rai was amazing, and again, I knew no-one of my aquaintances who had been there before. This holiday was a truly wonderful trip for me, one which gave me many precious memories and friends to value for ever. I am still in touch with both tour guides since this once in a lifetime experience was made so special by their efforts. I would recommend Tucan Travel for guided tours in SE Asia and South America.

Tucan were great! Perfect if you want the flexibility to pick and choose your activities but have someone there to organise all the annoying small things like train tickets and where you can get cheap laundry!

Great itinerary for a brief visit to Brazil, comfortable accommodation, good food, optional/suggested extra activities were very enjoyable and affordable. Our guide was excellent despite it being towards the end of a very long tour, his first time to Brazil and there was a VERY difficult traveler in our group. The traveller was often rude, always late, highly demanding and even overstayed in a hotel room (despite the whole group being aware they had to checkout before the day's activities) and refused to pay the hotel fees. Our guide coped with her very professionally and diplomatically, while still managing to keep the whole group having a good time and without any other dramas. Highly recommend this company and the 10 day tour from Iguacu Falls to Rio to anyone looking for a fun, affordable, comfortable trip.

We did the Thailand-Laos-Burma trip. Thailand / Laos was great, Sarah (Tucan Leader) was very competent, but the Burma trip was outsourced to another company ?Kiri?, which we were not made aware of. We understood it was one trip with Tucan. There were a lot of hand-off problems ... like we were told (in Thailand) to proceed to the airport in Yangon and someone would meet us there with a Tucan sign. No one knew the hotel name just go thru customs and someone will be there. No one showed up. Here we are at the Yangon Airport , no one to meet us, don't know where to go. Tried to call the in-case-of-a-problem phone number and whoever answered had no idea who we were, or who Tucan was. Finally got thru to the S/E Asia Tucan person and things got straightened out. In the end everyone was very apologetic, but this is the reason you pay for these group tour thingys ... to look after the logistics. Otherwise the trip was great. Local Burma Leader (Moe) was fantastic. Couldn't do enough.

I just wanted to say that I can't explain how disappointed I was of this tour. Some people ruined my tour. 32 people is probably too much especially when most of them are from the same country. 25 australians, 6 british, I was the only one swiss and a bit older (30), I was isolated. That was not my first tour, I did one with an other company and it was not like this. That was the worst human experience. At least we had a great tour leader and driver. There is no chance that I'll book a tour with Tucan again neither to recommend it to my friends or family. I have the feeling that I've lost my money and my time.

Hi Helen, Thank you for your feedback. Obviously, we are not able to ensure that you will get on with everyone on your group tour. That is something that is outside of our control. We are also not able to limit the number people from one particular nationality. We do however offer you the chance to find out the ages and nationalities of those already on the tour at the time of booking. Group Tours are excellent opportunities for single travellers to meet new people, make new friends and discover places with the support of others. We find that connections are often made deeper and faster than they might be in your everyday life and we are sorry that you did not have this experience on our group tour. While the majority of our Budget Expeditions (18-35's) average at about 24 passengers per tour, our group tours into Rio Carnival do tend to be full. This only adds to the party atmosphere and the experience of heading in to the biggest carnival celebration in the world. For further feedback on your tour, please email feedback@tucantravel.com Kind regards, Jess @ Tucan Travel
